Kapolioka'ehukai Outrigger Canoe Club is a small outrigger canoe club in San Diego, California. Our mission is to promote and perpetuate the sport of outrigger canoeing and the Pacific Islander culture that surrounds it.
We take our name and our inspiration from the late Rell Kapolioka’ehukai Sunn, who was a Hawaiian legend in her time. She was a pioneer of women’s surfing, the first female lifeguard in the state of Hawai’i in 1977, and the ultimate Hawaiian water woman – surfer, free diver, lifeguard, and outrigger canoe paddler. Most of all, she was a woman who gave back to her community in countless ways. When she passed away from breast cancer in 1998 after fighting it for 14 years she left behind a legacy that we as a club try to emulate.
We paddle throughout the year in the waters off San Diego. Guests are always welcomed with aloha.
