One of my favorite CalendarLink partners is the Surfing Heritage Foundation (http://www.surfingheritage.org) in San Clemente. It was founded by some of the biggest names in the sport, like Dick Metz who founded Hobie Sports and Tom Pezman, a legendary surfer who serves as the Foundation’s executive director.
The Surfing Heritage Foundation is famous for having the largest selection of surfboards anywhere in the world. Right now, they’re also assembling the largest collection of surf photography in the world. They are constantly innovating. That’s why I like them.
Tomorrow (Nov. 6) from 5-8 pm, they’ll celebrate the grand opening of their new Surfing Heritage Museum and Gift Store at South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa. Operating a non-profit retail storefront in a location like South Coast Plaza is pure genius; it’s a great way to connect with the public and promote its mission of “preserving, presenting and promoting surfing’s heritage for the appreciation and education of current and future generations; and to achieving our goal of surfing being more accurately understood, represented and enjoyed.”
Amen to all of that!
The Museum Gift Store will soon be selling photo calendars made through the Foundation’s CalendarLink.org website. It will feature some of the greatest surf shots from the last 50-60 years. As with all of our partnerships, 50% of the price of the calendar will go directly to the Surfing Heritage Foundation.
I can’t wait to see the store. If you’re in the area, be sure to stop by, they’re in South Coast Plaza West (formerly Crystal Court), suite 303.
Occasional musings from John Conover about some of the people, processes, pains and pleasures of starting a new business.
About:
Hi, I’m John Conover, a longtime So Cal surfer and creator/owner of Tidelines calendars. As I approach the 30th anniversary of Tidelines, I’m starting a new venture called CalendarLink.org, a free fund-raising tool for non-profit groups and charitable organizations. Here are some of the stories of the process, the people, the pains and the pleasures of being the Calendar Guy.
